beautiful.

he hadn't moved, her eyes were still closed, but she knew by the rhythm of his breathing that he was awake too. they listened to every stroke of wind the earth took in, every motion outside their window, and every step that passed on the sidewalk. nothing in particular stood out, nothing in particular was being ignored.

it was ten exquisite minutes of the most intense silence you've ever heard. before the day got started, before water was put on to boil for tea, before they got busy, before the light was strong enough to read by, before breakfast had to be prepared or dishes cleaned or laundry done, before work, before decisions had been made, before new friends were introduced, before the phone calls and e-mails and questions and demands...before even they realized they were really awake..

they were all that mattered.

his left cheek glowed in the morning light, and waited for a kiss. they both reached for the extra blanket tossed at the foot of the bed to cut the chill in the air. he wrapped his arm around her waist.
smile, good morning.
hey, luv. she pulled him closer in for a hug.
you're okay?
ofcourse. just…content. warm. i feel…happy.
yea?
yea.
me too.
arm squeeze.

if god exists, if miracles can happen, it's in the ten minutes before feet hit the ground as you're getting out of bed, reaching back to hold her hand, or whispering to him--

...or realizing that you're simply content.
