let me spell it out for you.
forget attempts to attain eloquence. forget words in bold and italics. forget the imagery, intended puns, and wordwrapped sentences with multiple meanings. i'm going to make this very simple for you to understand. and if you don't get it this time...

shades of grey.
blackandwhiteandgrey.
this piece of black on that page. a mark.

it's not all black or white. Life isn't two dimensional, or even three dimensional. there are corners and coves and choices and consequences. to reduce it all to an either-or, this-or-that, here-or-there is absurd. sometimes either-or questions should be answered neither, we should understand this-or-that to be both, and perhaps here-or-there ought to be thrown out the window and we go in search of a place no one else has heard of.

--
it's not about me.
it's about you.
and them.
and us.
lives intertwined.

it's about the overlapping circles of our lives. there's not one answer to life. my answer is not yours, and yours isn't theirs. let them live their way. can you imagine it? if everyone let everyone else live the way they wanted to live. give me one reason why that wouldn't work. granted, the only way it would work is if everyone subscribed to the concept as a way of life, and to think that might happen is idealistic. utopian. but it's not abstract--anyone could understand the simplicity.

she asked me--was i wrong in what i said?
it's not that you were wrong. i looked at her, trying to explain. but he wasn't wrong either. you were sure he was, and he 'knew' you were..and that's where the conflict was.
stop..but was i wrong?
you're not hearing me, it's not that you were wrong..
was i wrong.
no. i don't think you were. but he did.

you want reassurance? don't come to me. you want an absolute? don't come to me. you want an honest, third person's view and opinion? that's all i'm willing to give. i can't tell you which way is right or wrong, it's not my place, and not my right. but i can tell you what i do see, if you're willing to listen.

compromise. that's it, once you've beaten it to a pulp, left it with a few broken limbs, and reduced it to a single word. is that simple enough?

remind me how to see.
