too much sun.
untuck your shirt
kick off your shoes
roll up your pants legs
push up your sleeves
give it all up and
just walk away
don't stop
a gust of wind
plays with your hair
look at him with a half-smile
masking your fear
fine sand grains chafe
between your toes
dreaming,
remember the day
we didn't meet
on this shore?
we were children then
half of a world apart
half of a life together
breathing,
in humid sea-salt air
Life stood still
listening--
the voice of the wind and
lips of the sea whisper
new songs of
being.
--
remind me to forget.
